As the company’s market share increased, an opportunity arose in late 2007 to acquire Welsh Slate – a group of 4 slate quarries in north Wales which included the Penrhyn quarry, Cwt-y-Bugail quarry, the Oakley quarry in Ffestiniog and Pen yr Orsedd. Welsh Slate currently employs over 200 people, has a turnover in excess of £20 million and produces roofing slate, aggregates and a range of architectural slate. Welsh slate is truly a global brand and, in addition to the home markets of Ireland and the UK, the company currently supplies France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Eastern Europe, Russia, United States, Australia and New Zealand. In each of the markets in which it operates, it is recognised as the ultimate brand in natural slate.
LBS has continued to add quality products to its product offering over the years and, in addition to our range of roofing slates, we also offer a range of clay roof tiles including the market leading Snowdon® - an innovative large format clay tile designed to look like a natural slate. We complement our Snowdon range by offering a more traditional range of clay roof tiles from world renowned suppliers such as Dreadnought and Terreal.
Finally, LBS is the sole global supplier of Z Stone®. Z Stone is an innovative natural stone cladding system available in a range of different stones and formats, and is designed to give a traditional stone wall or façade at a fraction of the price of traditional stone masonry.
