AB Pneumatics – Performing Under Pressure

AB Pneumatics Ltd Has been in Business for 30 years, experiencing many highs and lows but has always stayed focused on producing world class products through local manufacturing. Dr Armstrong and Mr Burrell had a vision when starting the company to use their expertise developed working with Goodyear to service a very unique market. Although they where more engineers than salesmen there knowledge won them orders. The company was strong enough to go through several recessions but at the age of 69 Dr Armstrong thought it was time to hand it over.
In May 2010 the company was purchased by Peter Blair and Jonny Boomer with the aim to grow and develop AB Pneumatics product range. The company was finding it hard to compete at this time,  but through the loyalty of our customers and suppliers AB Pneumatics began to grow again.
In 2011 and 2012 increased orders from our primary customer base where growing at a dramatic rate, resulting in an increase in the size of the workforce as well as investment in new equipment. In October 2011 we worked with Queens University Belfast and introduced a KTP (Knowledge Transfer Programme) associate. Steven Boal was employed to embed fresh engineering knowledge into the company. As Dr Armstrong was retiring we needed to recoup some of his vast experience. The project ended in October 2013 and Steven is now AB Pneumatics’ Design engineer who is responsible for many areas including R&D and process improvement.
The company has since steadily grown the capacity of our seat air-spring business while also concentrating on the manufacture of shock-absorber sleeves,  working closely with our customers to come up with innovative ideas for improvements.
In 2011 we decided to broaden our business into the expanding export markets, with the company now producing rubber products for the Netherlands as a result of the Netherlands Outlook programme operated by Lisburn City Council in partnership with NI-NL. There was also a significant orders fulfilled to Italy of Donut rubber springs.
The Donut range had been in development for some time, finally reaching the market in 2015 with very positive feedback. Our range of Donut Springs is expanding as we further develop these products but a number have been identified as common sizes.
The Donut Spring has an array of different applications, we have already discovered customers using a similar products across different markets. It is the intention of AB Pneumatics working with our distributors to get this product into the markets all over the world.
Pneumatic components are also a big part of our companies vision and AB Pneumatics are very pleased to be able to offer the full Univer range.
We use our expertise in vibration isolation and rubber technology to produce products to better suit our customers needs. Recently we developed an innovative product, comprising of a spring that fits inside a variety of items including slurry spreaders, vibration mounts for fitness vibration plates, weights benches, bump stops, pipe reducers and many more.
The company offers full testing facilities and has ISO accreditation, working closely with local universities such as Queens University Belfast for polymer developments.
With a manufacturing facility close to M1/A1 interchange AB Pneumatics offers short turnaround times and fast delivery of products and components throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe. With the exciting growth we have seen, AB Pneumatics are currently in the process of expanding the production facility and will soon be able to offer our customers an even higher level of service.
